Despite the setbacks during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, LifeYard, a community organisation dedicated to fostering creativity, wellness and community, is pressing ahead with plans for their diamond jubilee, which will span May to August.

While it is no longer operating from a physical space, having lost access to its original yard, LifeYard remains committed to its mission of transforming public spaces into vibrant hubs of artistic expression and community engagement.

According to Sabukie Allen, acting director of LifeYard, the team is determined to continue making a positive impact in the community, as it is set to rebound from the setbacks caused by COVID-19.

"This celebration (marks) our 10th year of community engagement, youth and personal development, environmental awareness and merging the energies... a revitalising of the area through the restoration of existing murals and creating new murals at selected locations, breathing new life into the neighbourhood, and providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents," said Allen.

To ensure maximum participation, LifeYard is inviting community members, local artists, friends, and volunteers to join in what they have dubbed a transformative endeavour, by coming together to preserve and enhance the existing murals.

"Participants will play a vital role in the rejuvenation of the community, fostering a renewed sense of pride and connection, while showcasing the beauty of unity and their talents," said Allen. "We believe that art has the power to inspire, unite, and uplift communities, even in the face of adversity."
