Pregnant woman gunned down gangland-style
A pregnant woman was murdered gangland-style inside a vehicle along the Great River main road in Hanover on Tuesday afternoon.
Her body and her two-year-old son were then tossed out of the vehicle, which sped away.
The woman, who relatives say was five months pregnant, has been identified as 29-year-old Britanny Gibbs, a resident of Woodland district, also in Hanover. According to reports, shortly after 1 p.m. a white Nissan AD Wagon pulled up close to Great River and Woodland. Shortly after, explosions were heard inside the vehicle, which was followed by a woman being pushed out of the car. Moments later, her baby son was placed on the ground beside her. After the car sped off, onlookers rushed over to the woman and the child. They discovered that the woman, who had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her head, was dead. However, the child, who appeared in a daze, was unharmed.
The Lucea police were alerted and on their arrival, the scene was processed and the body removed to a funeral home. The child was reportedly released into the custody of a relative.
"She is originally from Woodland, but she moved out of the community some time ago, and only recently returned with a young belly (pregnant)," a resident told THE STAR.
The Hanover police confirmed that the woman died from gunshot wounds. They are asking anyone with any pertinent information on the killing to contact the Lucea Police Station.
