A St Catherine pastor was on Sunday arrested by police while delivering his sermon in church and later charged with child abuse.

He is Kyle Campbell of the Greater Miracle Worship Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Reports are that in early February 2024, the pastor went to the seven-year-old child's school after receiving reports of a problem at the institution.

He reportedly barged into the child's class and grabbed and punched the child repeatedly on the upper body.

The teachers were reportedly stunned as he unleashed blows on the helpless child.

The police received information on the issue and an investigation was launched.

About 1:30 p.m., on Sunday the clergyman was ushered out of the church while he preached.

He was escorted to the Spanish Town Police Station, where he was formally charged.

A court date is being finalised.
