Man accused of burning daughter’s college degrees
A elderly man is expected to stand trial in September, following allegations that he burnt his daughter's degrees she gained from studying overseas.
James Rowe is before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for malicious destruction of property and has not yet entered a plea. Rowe and his daughter attended court on Tuesday and informed presiding Judge Carlo Mason that the matter was not resolved through restorative justice, as the compensation figure that the complainant suggested was too high.
But Mason was angered that the father and daughter could not resolve the issue and pressed them to find an amicable solution.
"Unnu caah live so! I am trying to save this matter from going on my trial list, to have you both sit with a third party and resolve the matter," the judge pleaded.
But his pleas were not heeded, as the complainant stressed that her father did the unforgivable, allegedly burning her master's and doctorate degrees which she obtained from universities in Cuba.
"Okay, this wound cuts deep. I am keeping this matter on my trial list," Mason indicated.
The matter was then adjourned until September 16, when the trial is expected to begin.
