Eight persons shot dead at party
Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang, says that Sunday night's attack on a party in Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths, Clarendon may be connected to reprisal activities from some years ago.
Reports are that 17 persons were shot, eight of them fatally. Among the injured is a four-year-old boy who is said to be in critical condition. Chang, in a statement, expressed deep sadness and sent condolences to the families who have been affected.
"We are committed to supporting the community and our dedicated police officers as they work tirelessly to bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice. The police have made significant progress in Clarendon, with a 39 per cent reduction in murders compared to last year. However, incidents like this remind us that our work is far from over," he said.
"I urge the police to utilise every available resource and power to apprehend the perpetrators swiftly," Chang said.
He also called on the people of Clarendon and the wider Jamaica, to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement "as we work together to ensure the safety and security of our communities".
