Teen fears returning to school after being attacked

Fearful for his life, a 14-year-old boy has not returned to school since he was beaten up last Thursday by a group of his schoolmates.

The boy, who was given permission to speak to this newspaper by his mother, said he was attacked by a group of boys who had fought his friend earlier in the day

"I never had any altercations with any of these guys, but last Thursday they and one of my friends catch up. I had nothing to do with it, but they saw me and not him. So they saw me and my other friend and jump out on us. I am afraid to go back to school because on Monday, about five of them pull knives on my other friend, and on Tuesday, it was the security guard who save them from being attacked again. I don't even know if I want to go back to that school because I don't want to get stab up or anything," he said.

The boy's mother said her son had to be rescued by the principal of another institution who transported him home.

"He said he was outside the school gate and was about to head home but a group of boys formed a circle around him. He said he was trying to get out and one of them took a piece of board and hit him on his leg. One of them had a knife and when one of his friends tried to intervene, they tore off his bag. They managed to run over by the nearby primary school and the principal rescued them and took them home," she said.

The woman said when her son got home, he was terrified and could barely walk as his leg was swollen. She said she took him to get medical attention and then she visited the school the following day.

"Honestly, when I saw my son crying the day, I was hurt, and I went in search of the boys but they had already left school. I cried as well because he has been a victim of bullies from he was in grade seven. I have spoken to school authorities and nothing much has been done. With this incident, I was told to report it to the police as it happened off school property," she said.

The frustrated mother showed THE STAR a copy of the police report receipt. She stated that she was told that the police would be visiting the school and making contact with the boys' parents, after which a meeting will be held.

"I am still waiting on that meeting. He is at home right now because he is stressed and afraid to go to school. These boys hide the knife outside the school. I am waiting on the meeting as I want to know what will be done. My son is very quiet and well behaved. Even the dean of discipline told me that. I am scared of sending him back to school because I have seen videos of other kids getting bullied. I have read about children getting killed and I don't want my son to be one of those victims," she said.
