Man fatally shot by cop in St Catherine
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by a policeman in St Catherine on Sunday night.
Police report that around 10:10 p.m., 34-year-old Vivian Francis, a Jamaican man who resided in East Windsor, New Jersey, USA, was at an event the Ewarton Sports Complex when he and the police officer got into an argument.
It is reported that Francis flipped a table.
During the spat, he allegedly drew a knife and tried to stab the cop.
In response, the policeman reportedly drew his service firearm and shouted "police drop the knife".
When Francis continued his advance he was shot by the officer.
Reports are that the police had to retreat after patrons associated with the deceased started to attack him.
Francis was taken to the Linstead Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
