Corporal Junior Thompson's passion for service has taken him from the youth club to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) with a trail of community impact in his wake.

The 2024 LASCO JCF Saluting Our Heroes Chairman Award winner, Thompson, joined the Constant Spring Youth Club as a young member and soon rose to become its president . He then decided to take his passion for community service to the next level with the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

"I was inspired to join because of my dedication to service," Thompson shared.

"I was a youth president in the Constant Spring Youth Club, and I saw where becoming a member of the JCF could propel further opportunity for building, so I decided to join the force and became part of the Community Safety and Security Branch."

When Thompson, who is from Area 5, walked into The Jamaica Pegasus hotel last Friday as a constable, he had no idea he would be leaving with a new rank. Standing out among 157 nominees, the Camperdown High School past student was promoted to corporal after impressing his superiors with his dedication to making a difference in the lives of those he serves.

Corporal Shantel Watson (Area 1), Corporal Namoy Roberts (Area 2), Sergeant Margaret Simms-Williams (Area 3), and Constable Moesha Allen (Area 4) joined Thompson in the running for the Chairman's Award.

Reflecting on his win and the positive changes within the JCF, Thompson said, "Such an achievement means that there is growth within the JCF, and it is proof of what our commissioner says -- that it is the right time to become a member of the force. I would encourage anyone with a desire to serve to just join. I am beyond elated because I have been a member for just three and a half years, and words cannot describe how I am feeling right now."

Thompson expressed deep gratitude for the mentorship he received within his division, crediting his management team for their "inspirational" guidance and a close friend, last year's winner Corporal Jayanne Raymond, who has been a "guiding light" through his journey. Raymond's words, "Success is within reach," have fuelled his commitment to the force.

Thompson admits that he did not expect to get this type of recognition so quickly in his career.

"The thing about me is that I like to work in the quiet. I am the type to push persons forward and have them being in the limelight when they are working," Thompson said.

Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner Christopher Phillips couldn't be prouder of Thompson, praising the young officer's work ethic and passion.

"I am happy for all the participants this year. Area 5 are the reigning champions, as Corporal Jayanne Raymond was the Top Cop for 2024, and now she's handing over to Thompson, also from Area 5," Phillips said, clearly proud of his division's standout officers.

"The competition allows officers to shine in their communities, and with the promotions we know next year will see even more serious contenders. As long as I am at Area 5, I want to keep sending strong candidates forward," he added.
