Woman to pay $800k after fight over man
A Corporate Area woman who was injured in a fight over a man in 2020, will receive nearly $1 million in compensation from her attacker.
This after a successful mediation agreement, in which the defendant, Natalie Gregg, should complete payments by April 2025. Gregg is charged on an indictment of unlawful wounding. It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that the complainant was approached by Gregg, who was holding pepper spray and a pair of scissors, while standing at a community shop. A physical altercation ensued between the women, however, on the Crown's file, the extent of the injuries the complainant sustained were not noted, as the medical certificate was not obtained. The cause of the fight between Gregg and the complainant was also not included in the complainant's statement.
But through probing by Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, the complainant shared that the altercation was over a man.
"You guys are sharing the same exhibit. So, is the man here today?" the judge quizzed.
"No, Your Honour, but this been going on since 2005," the complainant replied, sharing that she is no longer with the man and has a one-year-old child with him, while Gregg shares a 16-year-old child with the man.
"So you see that it wasn't worth it. The man not coming here for fighting over us you know," Burrell said.
The women agreed to attend mediation, and the $800,000 agreement was reached.
"For what?" the senior jurist asked.
"Your Honour, it is a lot of things. Apparently, a lot happened," the prosecutor responded.
"Okay, I don't want to hear it. I don't monitor payment arrangements in court," Burrell said.
A first payment of $200,000 was made in court on Wednesday and the matter was set for mention on January 31, 2025 when another payment is to be made.
