INDECOM probing fatal police shooting of man in Homestead, Spanish Town
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the death of a 48-year-old man who was shot by police during an alleged confrontation on Old Harbour Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine last night.
Dead is Vernon Campbell otherwise called 'Bald Head', a labourer of from the area.
Reports are that about 9:30 p.m. a police patrol team were in the area when they noticed Campbell in a small gathering acting suspicious.
He was accosted and allegedly a tussle developed between him and the lawmen.
According to the police, Campbell allegedly pulled a firearm and shot at them.
The police returned fire and he was hit.
A Ruger pistol loaded with seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition was seized, say the police.
The man was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
