Bad boy no more - ‘Blue-Eye Bandit’ breaks free from villain roles in new Jamaican film
From viral mugshot to movie star, Jeremy Meeks is making headlines once again. The ex-con-turned-supermodel is stepping into a shocking new role in the highly anticipated Jamaican film Love After Holidays, penned and produced by actress and writer Jacinth Headlam.
Meeks, who skyrocketed to fame after his criminally handsome mugshot took the Internet by storm, is shedding his tough-guy image to play Stephen, a devoted husband and father navigating life's challenges. And he's loving every second of it.
In an exclusive interview with THE STAR, Meeks couldn't contain his excitement about the film's emotional depth.
"The script was just incredible, and it was refreshing to read a script where there wasn't a gun in my hand. I have always been placed in a box where I portray a gangster or killer. Because of that, I have been turning down a lot of roles. I wanted to do some wholesome family scenes and some feel-good movies. So, when I got this role, it was so refreshing. I was just a concerned father who wanted to make sure my ex-wife got the help she needed and my kid was good," Meeks revealed.
According to Meeks, being on the set of Love After Holidays was nothing short of incredible.
"We only had five days of filming and it all came together. I haven't even watched the trailer because I want to see it for the first time at the premiere. I only also know about the scenes that were shot for myself. I was not on set while everyone else was filming. I read the script but I don't know how it all came together," he shared.
Love After Holidays premiered in Kingston on Friday night. It is more than just a film; it's a deeply personal story of love, loss, and redemption, inspired by her memoir Love After.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood hunk, Meeks, who spent the last few days is soaking up every inch of the island's culture, is already dreaming of a role in another Jamaican film.
"I am waiting to hear from some Jamaican producers. I am trying to come back to Jamaica again and again and to have an incredible fan base here. There is a really dope market here that I would want to be a part of," he said.
Meeks, who is on the island with his partner Mellissa and son Jeremy Meeks Jr, said he will be touring the rock throughout his mini stay, trying to immerse himself in the culture.
"I don't want to be sitting on a resort anywhere. I want to be outside enjoying the Jamaican culture. I love Jamaica and the place is so tropical and exactly what I needed. I just flew in from Germany where it was cold and grey," he said.
