Minimum wage to go up to $16,000

Minimum wage earners are to get more money.

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness today announced an increase to

$16,000 per 40-hour work week effective June 1 this year.That's a 6.7 per cent increase over the current rate of $15,000 per 40-hour work week.

"This reinforces the Government's commitment to improve the livelihood of the lowest income earners," he said during his contribution to the 2025-2026 National Budget Debate in Parliament.

He noted that the national minimum wage was $6,200 when his administration took office nine years ago.
