40-y-o man charged with sexual assault of ex-girlfriend's granddaughter

A 40-year-old man is behind bars for the alleged sexual assault of the eight-year-old granddaughter of his ex-girlfriend.

He was charged on Saturday with buggery and grievous sexual assault.

A date is to be set for him to appear in court.

Information from the St Catherine North police is that the alleged incident happened in December last year after the child returned home from school.

It is reported that the child's grandmother left to do an errand in a field.

The accused allegedly entered the child's bedroom and sexually assaulted her.

His alleged criminal act was revealed after the child went to school and told an employee.

A report was made to the police and members of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse launched an investigation, which resulted in his arrest on Friday, March 14.

He was subsequently charged.
