PAJ praises late Owen James as 'pioneer' in local business journalism

Following the passing of Owen James, the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has since praise the late journalist as a pioneer in local business journalism.

James, a media practitioner for over 50 years, died yesterday.

'The Business Day' and 'The Business Review' are just two of the more "influential" programmes created by James, which remain staples on local television, the PAJ noted.

Other notable programmes include 'A Ray of Hope' and 'On a Personal Note'.

James' career began at The Gleaner Company where he served as Editor of the Star newspaper. He later joined the now defunct Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation and later Television Jamaica.

"The Press Association of Jamaica deeply mourns the loss of Owen James, a distinguished journalist and media practitioner who made significant contributions to the field of journalism in Jamaica for almost five decades," PAJ president Dashan Hendricks said in a statement on Friday.

Hendricks said James demonstrated, throughout his career, exceptional leadership and vision, particularly during his tenure at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation.

He also lauded James for playing a crucial role in developing a team of talented journalists who have since gone on to make significant impact on the media landscape.
