Police accused of killing Ribbiz worker offered $1 million bail

A $1 million bail was offered to the off-duty cop charged for the shooting death of a Ribbiz Ultra Lounge employee earlier this year when he appeared in the Gun Court section of the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Constable Patrick Williams, 39, who is attached to the Denham Town Police Station, is charged with murder in connection with the January 23 killing of Jermaine Richards, 40, of Fleet Street in Kingston.

He was offered bail by Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks following a bail application by his attorney D'ondre Buchanan.

Bail was offered on condition that he reports twice weekly at the nearest police station and surrenders his travel documents.

He was also warned not to communicate with the witnesses or visit the Ardenne Emrates Plaza or Ribbiz Lounge.

He is to avoid the Southside area of Kingston Central.

Williams is to return to court on April 30.

Richards was reportedly killed in the parking lot of the Ardenne Emirates Plaza located on Ardenne Road, Kingston 10.

Friends and family members of the victim had staged a protest calling for his killer to be arrested and charged.

Richards was subsequently charged following investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

Attorney-at-law John Jacobs is also representing Williams.
