March 12, 2025

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - The unlawful sexual intercourse case against the the former deputy speaker of Parliament in Barbados, Neil Rowe, will begin on March 25.

Rowe, 45, has been charged with having unlawful sexual intercourse with a female without her consent, or was reckless as to whether she consented, on September 18, 2022.

He appeared in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, where he was informed that the trial would be adjourned to the alternate date of March 25 because the prosecutor in the matter, Principal State Counsel Olivia Davis, and the court are both engaged in trials.

Rowe, who was not required to plead to the indictable charges on his previous court appearance, was in 2024 stripped of his postion as deputy speaker , with Ptime MInister Mia Mottley saying the move will allow him to deal with a matter he faces before the High Court.

Mottley said that the decision removes Parliament from being embroiled in the private issues of a member.
