Women say murder suspect was ‘gallis’ not gunman
Although the police say that Andre 'Likkle Zullu' Reid was the alleged leader of the KDF Gang, his loved ones said he had a clean slate and was not a gangster.
The 33-year-old was fatally shot in an alleged confrontation with the police early yesterday morning in Seven Miles, Shooters Hill, St Andrew. Reports are that at 5 a.m., police acting on information swooped down on a premises in Shooters Hill, where an alleged confrontation ensued. Reid was one of two men cut down by lawmen yesterday, in separate operations, as police continue to pursue those responsible for the deadly attack on a colleague and his family near Reading in St James on Saturday. In the first incident, Lindel Gray, otherwise called 'Frass' or 'Sassa Frass', was shot and killed during an alleged confrontation in the Anchovy police area about 1 a.m. The police say they recovered an illegal firearm at the scene. The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing both incidents.
Yesterday, when THE STAR visited Shooters Hill, the police were still processing the scene. A group of females who sat a short distance away from where the incident unfolded, said the only thing that Reid was guilty of was being a 'gallis'.
"Dem man deh is all about the girls and the world know that. Right now, couple a who deh here suh probably did deh wid him but can't talk about it because dem know a suh di ting set. Him wasn't a killer, him was a gallis," a woman said. "Mi use to deh with him one time but him have to run because him [private parts] too hot man. But him was a nice and jovial person so any woman would want him."
The women were also adamant that Reid could not have been involved in the attack on the policeman as he was in Shooters Hill.
"Him couldn't kill nobody over the weekend because a right here suh him deh with we the entire time. Lie di police a tell," the woman said.
A bloodied mattress and a pool of blood on the floor of Reid's bedroom were still visible. Several females were observed weeping, among them Reid's girlfriend. She said she and Reid were awakened from their sleep by barking dogs followed by heavy pounding on their door.
"Mi hear a banging on the door and mi know a police bang but mi still ask who is it and dem say police. Dem ask who and mi in ya and mi say mi and mi man. Dem say mi must pull di door and mi end up pull di window. When mi open di window dem push in dem gun suh mi pull di door," she said.
She said seconds after opening the door, she was pulled outside by the lawmen after which explosions were heard.
"Andre end up sit down on the bed. As mi pull di door one a dem hold on pon mi hand and say come and mi say hold on deh but dem draw mi out and by the time mi bend di corner mi hear di shot dem," she said.
Like the other women, she said Reid could not be involved in the St James shooting of the cop and his family as she was with him in Shooters Hill all day on Saturday.
"There was no shootout. Dem say dem find rifle and him a shoot back but dat was a lie," she said. - S.M.L.
