Man charged after taking woman’s car and using it for himself

April 22, 2026

A St Thomas contractor is now facing fraud charges after he was allegedly entrusted with nearly $1 million to buy a motor vehicle, only to turn around and use it for himself.

Charged is 46-year-old Richard Jones, otherwise called 'Richie,' of Airy Castle District.

Reports from the Morant Bay police are that between August 19 and October 10, 2025, the complainant handed over a total of $950,000 to Jones to purchase a vehicle on her behalf.

However, after reportedly acquiring the vehicle, Jones allegedly began using it for his own personal benefit instead of delivering it to the woman.

The matter was later reported to the police, and Jones was identified and positively pointed out during investigations.

He has since been charged with fraudulent conversion.

Jones is scheduled to appear before the Morant Bay Parish Court on Wednesday, May 20.
