Ashley title fight rescheduled for October 29

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) super-bantamweight champion Alicia Ashley will get the opportunity to regain her title on Thursday, October 29, at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York, when she takes on Christina 'Lightning' McMahon from Ireland, over 10 rounds.

The fight had been originally scheduled for last month, but was postponed because the New York State Athletic Commission had some concerns with the supporting fights on the card.

The word out of New York yesterday was "all is set, and we are ready to go".

The fight will be for the title left vacant by Jackie Nava, who defeated Ashley, on September 6, last year, in Mexico.

Super champion

Since then, Nava also won the World Boxing Association (WBA) title in the same weight class, and has been declared a Super champion. She, therefore, vacated the WBC title, for which Ashley and McMahon will fight.

Ashley told STAR Sports, yesterday, she was very disappointed when the fight was postponed last month, but was "very happy that it is going to take place now".

She added, "I have even more of an incentive to put on a good fight now, and I am enjoying every minute of training for this fight. It is a year since I have fought, and I am really anxious to get back into the ring and regain my title. I love being world champion."

Ashley goes into the ring with a 22-10-1 record, four knockouts. Her opponent has a 7-0 record, three knockouts.

Both boxers are known for their speed. Indications are that it will be a classic boxing match between two smart fighters. Who are blessed with exceptional boxing skills.
