Western clash highlights RSPL

AFTER saving relegation on the last match-day in last season's Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football competition, FC Reno have hit the ground running in the new season by been the only unbeaten team.

In second position on 11 points from five sets of games, the Westmoreland club will face Montego Bay United in a top clash at Frome Complex, tomorrow, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The game is one of five scheduled in the round. Portmore United leads the 12-team standings on 12 points, ahead of FC Reno (11), Montego Bay United FC (10) and Humble Lion FC (8) in the top four.

FC Reno's technical director, Wendell Downswell, said the players representing the club this season were tactically selected. He is also looking towards the clash against his western rivals.

"Well, traditionally, it would be a Reno against Seba (now Montego Bay United) clash. It will definitely be a humdinger.

However, we intend to win all home games this season and make Frome a dynasty," Downswell told STAR Sports.

"We will take it one game at a time, so the focus is on Montego Bay," the former national senior team coach and player added.

Looking at the composition of the team that is missing last season's top goalscorer Craig Foster, the TD responded.

"We selected the players from a technical stand point. The technical team is doing a very good job, so far. The players want to create an impact, but it is all about the team as the goals are spread among the players."

FC Reno will look to maintain their 100 percent home record with players such as Rondell Morris, Kevar Walker and Roshane Sharpe.

On the other hand, MoBay United will also be confident of stopping FC Reno and climb above their rivals in the standings. Under American coach Tim Hankinson, last season's beaten finalist, MoBay United has done very well especially in the last four games where they secured 10 of 12 points, after losing on the opening day to promoted Portmore.

Mobay will come gunning with national representatives Dino Williams, Allan Ottey and Jermaine Woozencroft.

In another game of interest, former champions Tivoli Gardens host Waterhouse in a battle of lower half teams.
