Defending champions into rural area netball semi-finals

DEFENDING Rural Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) junior and senior schoolgirl netball champions, Denbigh and Holmwood Technical stayed on course to defend their titles after scoring impressive wins in quarter-final action on Wednesday.

Holmwood Technical continued their impressive form among the seniors as they scored the biggest win of the day. Despite losing several members of their winning team last year, they totally outclassed St Elizabeth Technical 60-14. The champions started strongly 16-4 at the end of the first quarter, doubling their score to lead 32-12 at half time. They maintained that dominance to lead 44-15 at the end of the third quarter.

There were also good wins among the seniors for Titchfield and Manchester High with former champions Denbigh having the hardest task of the day in winning their match.

Spurred by their home supporters, Manchester High after leading 11-2, 20-8, 31-15 ended with a 42-21 over another former champions in Edwin Allen.

Titchfield got by Frome Technical 43-15 and Denbigh completed the Semi final list with the closest winning margin of the day after a close 27-24 victory over Knox.

Denbigh Juniors were in a no nonsense mood as they easily got by Titchfield 41-14. Joining them in the semi-finals were, Manchester who had a 26-14 win over Central High, Knox with a big 37-18 win over Glenmuir and Holmwood which got by Anchovy High 26-18.

There will be a one week break before the semi-finals which are scheduled for Clarendon Park on Wednesday, December 2.

The junior semi-finals will see defending champions, Denbigh going up against Holmwood while in the other it will see Manchester High facing Knox.

Defending senior champion Holmwood will meet Manchester High and Denbigh will battle Titchfield among the seniors.
