Mico University College continued its impressive form in Intercollegiate Sports as the institution's male and female teams won football titles at the UWI Mona Bowl on Thursday.

The men's team stopped G.C. Foster College 4-3 in penalty shoot-out to win the Greg Garrell Knockout title while the female team stopped home team University of the West Indies (UWI)

2-0 to win.

In the men's knockout final, Mico was looking for three wins in a row. The team took an early lead three minutes in through Shane Franklin.

In the 16th minute G.C. Foster drew level through Lawrence Hyde. In the second half of extra time with five minutes remaining, G.C. Foster got a glorious chance to score after being awarded a penalty.

However, Mico goalkeeper and captain, Triston Huntley, dived to his left to make a good save to keep his game as either team failed to score during the period forcing a penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, the women's team, unbeaten for the past three years, took the lead in the 11th minute when Ranish Sullivan scored from some 20 yards out.

It was all Mico in the second half as both Kenisha Reid and Tashana Vincent looked a cut above their peers, dominating proceedings.

Reid then kicked powerfully from just outside the 18-yard box, giving the UWI goalkeeper no chance as the ball flew into the back of the net as the game ended 2-0.

Winning coach of Mico, Xavier Gilbert, who is also assistant coach of the national Under-17 women's team, was happy with the result.

"It was a good performance from the young ladies for the entire season. Three years in a row, and they are still unbeaten and we managed to defend our title. It has also been an up and down season with several players being injured, but nevertheless they stuck to the task," said Gilbert.
