No Weah, Jamaica!

Clar Duncan-Weah, mother of footballer Timothy Weah, said that although she would be proud to see her son wear the black, green and gold of Jamaica someday, she does not think it will happen.

"My Jamaican colours are always my colour and it's very important to be but because the US chose Timothy at such a young age, it will have to be his decision later on. But it's good to know that he has options," she said.

Weah, who is also the son of Liberian former world footballer of the year, George Weah, is eligible to represent four countries at the senior level, when the time comes. These are Jamaica - his mother's homeland, Liberia, France - as he has a French passport, and the United States - where he was born.

He is currently representing the United States in Group C of the CONCACAF Under 17 Championship in Panama, where he scored in their 5-0 over the young Reggae Boyz on Sunday.

Jamaica went on to win the following game 3-1 over El Salvador, and now face a must win game against Mexico on Saturday at 1pm.

Clar Duncan-Weah, who lived in the Shortwood area of St. Andrew before migrating in 1978, said that Timothy had been in the US programme since he was 12 years old, but he will make a decision on his senior international career when that time comes.

"Timothy's dream is to go to the World Cup and he is working very hard to achieve this goal. In terms of what nation he will represent, that is something he will leave for later on, since he is now a part of the US set up. He will make that decision later on as he develops more."

Weah also plays his club football for Paris Saint Germain, in France.
