Salt Spring, Faithful Masters stand tall in masters League

Faithful Masters, one of the beaten semi-finalists in last year's competition, now sits atop Zone A in the Keith Thorpe/Michael Thorpe Western Masters League football competition as the first round comes to a close.

Faithful Masters on Sunday defeated Cambridge Masters 4-1 at the UDC playing field. The Faithful Masters team completely dominated their opponent with goals from Kevin Gilburn in the 20th minute, Shavon Allen in the 56th, Oniel Davis in the 70th, and Anthony Mills in the 76th.

Nabion Brown scored for Cambridge Masters.

In the other game played on Sunday, Unity Masters and Hornets played to a nil-all draw.

The win puts Faithful Masters on a maximum 12 points from four games. Defending champions Copperwood Masters are in second place with nine points, while Pitfour Masters sit in third on six points.

Meanwhile, Zone B has last year's beaten finalist Salt Spring Masters on top with 7 points, Advent Masters on 6, Unity Masters on 4, and Challengers and Hornets with one point each.

The return round of the completion will begin next Sunday.
