National golfer Sean Morris is hopeful that preparation championships like the just-concluded Couples Resorts Negril Charity Golf tournament will go a long way in helping his game as he prepares for the World Amateur Masters qualifiers.

The smooth-putting Morris, who would make history if he was to qualify for the Amateur, made the revelation at the 11th annual Couples Resorts tournament, at Negril Hills Golf club recently.

''My goal is do well at the Latin America Masters tournament as I would love to represent the country at the Amateur Masters' said Morris, who along with his partner, John Brennan, topped the two-man scramble tournament.

''A tournament like this always aids in preparation, as while it includes player handicaps, you can set yourself personal goals, scores and targets.''

At the tournament, which featured 56 players, Morris and Brennan finished ahead of Ricardo Perry and Steve Richards, who carded 66.

Norris Scaffe and Dean Richards, with 62.5 topped the net score category with Stainton Baker and Paul Chin ending as runners-up on 63.25.

''I am delighted with the turnout, and the level of golf that was played,'' said Glenn Lawrence, chief executive officer of Couples Resorts.

''Year in year out, some of the top golfers attend the tournament to show their support as we cater to needy charities, and for that I am grateful,'' he added.

The tournament raised $1.2 million most of which went to Llandilo School of Special Education and the Montego Bay Animal Shelter.
