Miller lists in-form Allen as one for the future

Recalled West Indies one-day spinner Nikita Miller believes young Jamaica Scorpions batsman Fabian Allen has a bright future, and is hoping that his early first-class returns will be a hallmark of his cricketing career.

The 22-year-old Allen, who has been the most outstanding Jamaican batsman this season, has so far amassed two unbeaten centuries from three matches this season for an immaculate batting average of 114.

The former West Indies Under-19 all-rounder, made an undefeated 169, his maiden hundred, against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force last month, and two weeks ago scored 105 not out against the Windward Islands.

"He's a very good find,'' said Miller in assessing the right-hander, who now boasts a first-class batting average of 51.90 from seven matches.

"I must credit him for the form he is in, and the way he has batted. It is very good for the team to find a player like Allen, coming in at number six, and being able to just hold your head down and just bat.

"There are times when he is aggressive, but he mixes his aggression with temperament. I just hope that he will continue in that vein coming,'' he added.

Mixing solid defence while at the same time generally pouncing on loose deliveries that are on offer, Allen, has been a breath of fresh air for the Scorpions, who for the past four seasons have struggled batting-wise.

BATTINGEFFORT

To add to stature of his century knocks, Allen, who bowls left-arm orthodox spin as well, is the only Scorpions batsman who has scored a century this season after five rounds of matches.

"He is batting absolutely brilliant for a young player,'' continued Miller when asked to describe the batting effort of Allen.

"For example, he did not hit a six in his entire innings against the Windwards, and, is also coming off a 169 against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force where he also did not hit a six.''

"Additionally, he is very capable with the ball, which makes him a good prospect of an all-rounder.''

Jamaica are currently playing Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the sixth round of the 10-round CWI/Digicel Four-day Championship at Sabina Park.
