Coming off a nasty knee injury which ended her 2017 track and field season, Jamaica's most decorated female athlete, Veronica Campbell-Brown, said that she is skipping the indoor season in hopes of making a return at the Commonwealth Games later this year.

Campbell-Brown said that though she has fully recovered from the injury, her team made the decision because they did not want to rush her preparation.

"We just think that it was best for me to take it easy going back into the season because I came off in the summer. So, as opposed to go back into training and rush getting ready for the indoor season, we felt it would pay off better if we just focused on the outdoors," Campbell-Brown said. "The injury is great.[I am] fully better. I am back in training."

Campbell-Brown said that it is her intention to compete at the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between April 4 and 15.

Campbell-Brown competed at the Commonwealth Games the last time it was held in Australia.

Melbourne was the hosting city then, When Campbell-Brown and her countrywoman, Sherone Simpson, put on a down-to-the-wire performance in the women's 200m final. Campbell-Brown finished second, behind Simpson.
