SHAME ON YOU! - First-former says 'ballers raped her
STAR Sports has learnt that a Manning Cup player has been identified as one of five members of his school team, who allegedly raped a 14-year-old first-former last November, and is set to have charges laid against him.
Superintendent of Police Charmaine Shand, head of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), confirmed the latest development in the scandal to have hit the school.
"He was interviewed in the presence of his attorney and charges are expected to be laid soon, but investigation continues in the matter because only one of the suspects have positively been identified," Shand told STAR Sports.
It is alleged that on November 24, five boys, said to be members of the school's Manning Cup team, sexually assaulted the 14-year-old girl.
The matter was reported to the dean of discipline, who called in CISOCA.
INVESTIGATION
The school's principal said that no disciplinary action has been taken, pending the results of the investigation.
"The investigating officers told us not to do anything," she said, adding that the school has comprehensively cooperated with detectives from CISOCA.
"They said that they will do their investigation, they will do their follow-ups, which they have been doing. They have been at the school several times, meeting with the guidance counsellors, meeting with the form teachers, and meeting with me. They have asked me to leave it and let them do their work," she pointed out.
