Tiffany James, former World Under 20 Championship 400m champion, continues her impressive start to the season, as she ran her fastest opener in the 400m at the Camperdown Classics on the weekend.

James stopped the clock at 52.75 seconds, turning back a good field, which included the experienced Christine Day and 400m hurdles specialist Kaliese Spencer.

"When I was in the marshalling area, I got lane one and I was feeling a little down and I reminded myself that 'Tiffany, this is your year', and I went out there and I run a pretty good race - 52.75. I am happy and it will only get better," James assured.

With the World Indoor Championships team slated to be selected this week, James is keeping her ears opened.

"Indoor wasn't on my schedule but if I am chosen, I would be happy to participate," James said.

Earlier this year, James' coach, Bertland Cameron, said he expects the former Papine High school standout to have a breakout season this year.

"She is training well, and I am very pleased about her preparation. I like what I am seeing. Her approach is different this year," Cameron said.

James won her opening race of the season - a 200m at the Queens/Grace Jackson meet last month and has said that her main aim this year is to make the team to the Commonwealth Games, which takes place in Australia in April.
