High quality Christania - Francis pleased with sprinter's Commonwealth silver
Paul Francis, the coach of Christania Williams, who won a silver medal in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, said that he was particularly pleased with his athlete's execution after reacting to the gun later than the other competitors in the race.
"I am really pleased with how she ran. We have been working on new stuffs in terms of how to deal with the last part of the race and she is doing that very well," Francis said of Williams, who is known for her bullet start. "This morning [yesterday] she forgot to start but she recovered well."
Williams' reaction was almost .100 slower than the seven other competitors in the race, but she remained composed enough to run past her competitors to win the silver medal in 11.21 seconds. Her team-mate Gayon Evans ran a lifetime of best of 11.22 seconds to grab the bronze medal. Michelle- Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago won the race in 11.14 seconds, while another Jamaican Natasha Morrison was fifth in 11.31 seconds.
EXPECTING GREAT THINGS
Francis was also pleased with Williams' effort because of the injuries she has endured since becoming a senior athlete in 2013.
"Christania is a high quality athlete and there are times when things are happening behind the scenes that people are not necessarily aware of. She is approaching back her top form this year as a result of a little ease in the adversity the she has had and we are just expecting great things from her this meet and beyond," Francis said.
Williams has a personal best of 10.96 seconds, which she did at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
