When the JAAA National Junior Championships begin at the National Stadium on Thursday, all eyes will be fixed on American-based sprinter Briana Williams.

Williams, who has season's best times of 11.13 seconds in the 100m and 23.11 in the 200m, is one of the favourites trying to land spots in the events to compete at the World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, next month.

She recently finished third in the women's 100m in 11.26 seconds at the JN Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium on June 9.

Williams told STAR Sports after her third-place finish at the JN Racers Grand Prix that she is looking forward to the National Junior Trials.

"I am ready for it," said Williams. "Running against the pros really helped me for the Jamaica Junior trials and the World Under-20 and so it really helped me mentally and physically," Williams said." It will be really valuable because I know where I am at physically and mentally and this will prepare me for World Juniors."

She is expected to face strong competition from Edwin Allen's star sprinter Kevona Davis, who is the second fastest Jamaican junior sprinter in the 100m.

Davis, however, has a faster time in the 200m at 22.72 seconds, a time she did at the ISSA GraceKenndy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships.
