President of the Blue Marlin Swim Club in Montego Bay Ann-Marie Logan, has admitted that re-establishing a home for the club in Montego Bay is a tall order.

However, after staging the first open-water swim competition on Sunday, July 8, at the Doctor's Cave Beach, she is hoping that with the aid of the St James Municipal Corporation and The Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ), the club can achieve its objective in the near future.

"The money we made would not be significant in terms of establishing a pool. In terms of re-establishing a home for the pool, there is a process we have to go through. What is good is that the funds would have assisted us in going through that process," said Logan.

When asked about the relationship and recent development of talk between the swim clubs, ASAJ and the St James Municipal Corporation as it relates to a pool in the Second City, Logan said that their relationship was good but that she was in no position to speak for them.

"I can't speak for ASAJ, but I know from the past, they have always been interested and involved in putting down a 50-metre pool in Montego Bay. How many conversations between them and the parish council who is also interested, I can't say ..." said Logan.

Logan also pointed out that with open-water swimming becoming more popular, last Sunday's event would help break the ignorance and help keep the sport relevant.

"Yes, it makes us and the sport more visible. It also lets people realise that it is not just restricted to a pool in terms of competitive swimming. We do plan to have it as a yearly event just like the WO7 Lifespan Open-Water Swim in Oracabessa. We want this to be on the ASAJ calendar as well," said Logan.
