Former Excelsior High star thrower Shanice Love is looking to finish her season with a bang when she competes in the women’s discus throw final today at 6:40 p.m.

Love said that she is trying to improve her personal best of 57.77 metres and get on the podium.

“I really want to finish the season with a bang because I have been having a good season so far,” she said. “It is my first senior team so I want to finish in the top three.”

The Florida State University student said that it is imperative that she keeps on improving as she has set a target of throwing in the 60m range for her to pursue a career in athletics.

“For me to continue after I am finished with college, I have to be throwing in the 60 metres range, so I am trying my best to get up to that area,” the accounting major said.

Love showed a lot of promise two years ago when she threw 54.72 metres at the Penn Relays to set the then national junior record.

“It is a good feeling to know that I am a part of a wave of throwers who are representing Jamaica well. And that is one of the reasons why I am working hard to be among the best in this new legacy that we are creating,” Love explained.
