'KC's programme needs time'

Former Kingston College (KC) track and field coach Lennox Graham believes it is patience that will take 'The Purples' back to their 'rightful status' as kings of Boys Championships.

His comments come on the heels of Neil Harrison's departure from 2A North Street for 189 Old Hope Road last month.

Graham, who guided KC to six of their 31 Boys Champs titles, said it was patience which caused himself and other coaches at the time to end the title drought from 1983 to 2001.

"I think sometimes people forget history. The group of us who went back and got KC's programme back to where it should be at the time, we were actually down there for seven years before we won," Graham explained.

He continued: "I don't think the coach had got seven years but like every other area in life now, each generation becomes a little bit more impatient. We are no longer prepared necessarily to do the seasoning and wait the time."

PROGRAMME THAT WORKS

Since Graham left KC in 2007, the school has been crowned champions only once.

"I think we have to give Calabar (High School) credit. They have been able to put together a programme that works," Graham said.

The Clemson University sprint and hurdles coach has also moved to dispel rumours that he would be returning to KC soon.

"Whenever there is a coaching change at KC, they say that Lennox Graham is coming back. I think I am more appreciated now than when I was actually at KC. The short answer to that question is no. I know there is a lot of fake news that goes around on social media but I would not go back to KC to coach. I have put in my time there already," Graham explained.
