Corey Bennett, technical director of Hydel's track and field team, said his institution is currently in negotiations with veteran coach John Muir about the possibilities of joining the school's programme as an assistant coach.

Bennett told STAR Sports that his organisation has met with Muir and they are now close to signing off on an agreement with him.

"He will be one of my assistants," Bennett said. "Nothing is confirmed as yet, and it is now at an intro stage - where he has an interest and we have an interest, but nothing has been officially confirmed as yet. The school is entering some talks with him to see how best he can fit into our programme.

"He comes with a lot of skills and as a former head coach himself, he brings a lot of experience and he brings a lot of stability also to our programme."

POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION

Muir, who is a former head coach of Jamaica College, left his job at Vere Technical at the end of last season, after four years at the institution.

Bennett added that he has a lot of confidence in Muir's abilities and he is very optimistic that he can make a positive contribution to the school's track programme.

"John Muir has run a number of top schools, and for him to come and join us, it will be beneficial to us because he is a very rounded coach," Bennett said.

"He can coach the sprints and he can coach up to the middle distances. So he will help and we welcome him if it work out and if it becomes possible," Bennett stated.

Hydel finished second at this year's ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
