Wolmer's relying on 'big four'

Head coach at Wolmer's Boys School, Alex Thomas, says they are banking on his four key players to lead their charge to victory in this year's ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition, which gets under way on Saturday.

Tajay Griffiths, Kimani Gibbons, Shamar Murray and Nickashe Murray are the senior players that Thomas will be relying heavily on for victory this season.

Thomas told STAR Sports that all four players have played a key role in the team's preparations this season, and the Heroes Circle-based institution is hoping that they will continue their good form into the competition this season.

"They are very important because they have been carrying the baton for the past two seasons and so they know what is required of them," said Thomas. "I know that they want to leave on a good page by winning the Manning Cup for the school."

"These players have been doing well all preseason and they have helped to keep the team together. They are very confident, but in the same respect, they are humble," Thomas said.

Wolmer's reached the quarter-finals of last year's competition and Thomas added that they are looking to go much deeper this season.

"We are very confident, but we are taking it one step at a time and we are planning one day at a time, but the sky is the limit for us," he said. "The main focus is to do better than last season because we had a good preseason and the players are upbeat and feeling confident ahead of the new season."

Wolmer's who last won the Manning Cup in 1995, are drawn in Group G alongside, Jose Marti, Waterford, Edith Dalton James, Pembroke Hall and Holy Trinity.
