East putting self in Portmore shop window

Portmore United striker Javon East has been ruled out of the first two weeks of the new Red Stripe Premier League season after straining the ligament in his right knee, while playing for the national team against The Cayman Islands last Sunday.

East, who netted 15 times for the defending champions last season, says the injury will not affect his plans to become the league's top scorer this season.

"It is only two weeks and I will back and hunting goals for my team," East told STAR Sports. "The aim is to become the leading goalscorer this season."

The 23-year-old has set his sight on obtaining a contract from an overseas club and says the only way to attract their attention is by scoring a lot of goals.

"I want to play overseas, so I will be working hard this season to get a lot of goals," East said.

Portmore will take on newcomers Mount Pleasant Football Academy in their opening match at the Spanish Town Prison Oval tomorrow and even though he will be missing, the former Calabar High School player believes his team has enough ammunition to secure the victory.

"We are a deep team, so I am sure we are capable of winning without me," East said.

East was Portmore's most prolific scorer last season and finished third on the League's goalscoring table.
