Don't blame the coach, blame the players - Galloway

The cry for the sacking of Mount Pleasant coach Donovan Duckie by their fans has fallen on deaf ears.

This comes as Manager of the team, David Galloway told STAR Sports that the national Under-23 coach will not be leaving St Ann despite a poor run of form recently in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

Mount Pleasant, who are in their first year in top-flight football, burst out of the gates at the beginning of the season with four wins and a draw in their first six games but are now in danger of abdicating their spot in the top half of the league.

They have won just once in the in the last six games and are now in fifth position on 27 points.

The results have caused the football-crazed Mount Pleasant fans to call for the sacking of Duckie, who took Waterhouse FC to the final of the RSPL last season.

But Galloway has a lot of confidence in the work that Duckie has been doing and directed the blame to the strikers in the team.

"The coach is not the problem," Galloway said. "We have been creating a lot of chances, and we are just not finishing them. If you look at the last match (Mount Pleasant 0-2 Harbour View), we created seven clear chances and didn't score one."

Mount Pleasant have scored a mere 13 times this season, with only 11th-placed Montego Bay United with fewer goals.

Despite boasting an attack with the likes of Kemar Beckford, Devon Hodges, Cardel Benbow and Kesslon Hall, the St Ann-based team has not been able to score more than two goals in one match.

"The transfer market is there, and we are looking, and if we find any players who we believe can solve the problem, then we will sign them," Galloway said.

Galloway is hoping that there will be a turn of tide when they take on defending champions Portmore United this Sunday.

"We beat them at the beginning of the seaso, and I think we can do it again," he said.
