Eyes on the prize! - Arnett’s Fabian Reid hunts RSPL Golden Boot

Fabian Reid has his sight set on many prizes this season, but one he really is shooting for on an individual level is becoming leading goalscorer in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

As the saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again. Reid is the embodiment of such. Reid is determined to stake his claim as the league's best goalscorer this season, especially after narrowly missing out last season to Humble Lion's Craig Foster, who had 17 goals, to his 16.

The Arnett Gardens midfielder, so far this season, is living up to the standard he has set for himself as he is now currently leading the goal-scoring charts. Reid found the back of the net yet again in the latest round of matches, as his team, playing away from home, comprehensively beat Tivoli Gardens 3-0. The attacker said he is feeling good and motivated to continue in the same vein, but also listens to his coach to ensure that his team benefits from his efforts as well.

"I really feel good about it because I said before the season started this is something that I really wanted, as last year I was beaten by one goal by Craig Foster," Reid said.

JOB DONE

"This year, I decided that I am coming out for this season to see if I can put in the work and see what happens. It was that approach today to put in the work. Today, coach (Jerome Waite) also said I should come in and put in the work, but don't be selfish, because if you are selfish you are not going to play the way you are supposed to play. So I decided that I was going to come in and get the job done."

The Junglists' talisman is aware of what it takes to ensure he fulfills his ambition; he knows it is just a matter of continuing to hit the back of the net.

"All I have to do is that when I get my chances, I have to take them," he said. "If I don't take my chances, then that is how they will catch me."

Currently sitting on 11 goals from 22 games, averaging a goal every two games so far this season, he hinted that his best is yet to emanate. Reid pointed out that the stage of the season that he revels in, the play-offs, are still yet to come. Added to the fact that he has an objective which he is yet to accomplish, defenders and goalkeepers will be dreading the thought of facing Reid.

"My aim for this season is 20 goals, but If I can score over 20 goals, I will be even more satisfied," he said. "I am going for 20, I have nine goals to go, but I will go at it."
