Students tackle for top honours at Treasure Beach

The Battle Sports Gridiron National championships will have its final this Saturday at Treasure Beach Sports Park in St Elizabeth.

The event is hosted by National Tackle Football Association (NTFA), the first American Football federation in Jamaica. The day’s activities will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with the semi-finals.

Munro College will face BB Coke High in one semi-final while DeCarteret College tackles Belair in the other game.

One student athlete who exhibits academic development will walk away with the Janet Stewart Academic Excellence Award.

There will also be the Earle Harriott Achievement Award, which will go to the student athlete that has overcome personal challenges in order to maintain success in the community, classroom, and field of play.

The winners will meet in the final later in the evening.

“The NTFA and member schools have found the start of the programme has been extremely beneficial to the institutions as per the development of the student in the classroom and on the field of play,” Jerome Harriott, director of the National Tackle Football Association, said.
