Harbour View ready to revive Rom-Rom’s career

Harbour View FC General Manager Clyde Jureidini says midfielder Romario 'Rom-Rom' Campbell is ready to reignite his career with the club after his disappointing spell at Mount Pleasant Football Academy in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) last season.

The 29-year-old was released by Mount Pleasant at the end of last season after he failed to live up to their expectations.

Campbell struggled with fitness issues, resulting in him being relegated to the bench for most of the season by head coach Donovan Duckie.

However, Jureidini says Campbell is no stranger to the club because he was brought up through their youth system. Campbell also helped Harbour View to capture the RSPL title in 2013 before moving to Waterhouse the following season.

"We hope that his impact will be positive because he is older and he is wiser, and he has more sense of his obligation to the club," Jureidini said.

"We expect him to take up a leadership role and to lift up his performance, and by extension, the performance of the club throughout the league.

IMPROVED ATTITUDE

"Since he has been back with us this season, it (attitude) has been much improved, but I can't say what he was doing at other clubs in the other times, but we know that there were some concerns."

Jureidini pointed out that Campbell now has added responsibility at the club because his son, Romario Jr, is representing the under-13 team.

"He knows the discipline that we require of him before, and even more so now, so we expect that he will live up to those expectations, and we will encourage and guide him to do so," Jureidini said.

He said Campbell, who was once rated as one of the top midfielders in the country, has not lived up to his full potential.

"He has been working pretty well in preseason, but he needs to be given more time to continue that work and to improve on it, and then, let's see how it will take him and us throughout the season," Jureidini said.

"From my personal view, I don't know that he has lived up to his football talent and expectations, because we were preparing him to take over the major role in the shadow of Jermaine Hue, and that is why he was lured away from Harbour View to Waterhouse.

"We thought that had he stayed at Harbour View, he would have been an international player a long time ago, rather than still being here in Jamaica and not in the national team."
