The Six is real! - Molynes embracing league-leading status in RSPL

When you make the impact that Molynes Untied have done at the start of this 2019-20 Red Stripe Premier League(RSPL) season, other teams will take notice. With their winning record on the line on Sunday against Mount Pleasant, the league leaders were being bossed by visitors and it seemed that the St Ann outfit would be the ones to hand them their first defeat.

But while Mount Pleasant wasted the many chances that were presented to them, Molynes took one of the few they got, a Rayan Brown deflected shot in the 39th minute preserved their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win. Molynes head coach Lijyasu Simms knew that it was a result that they had to work hard for and was elated at earning their sixth straight win of the season.

"The six is real!" he said after the game. "This is our sixth game and our sixth win. As we continue, we go back to the training ground, to regroup and prepare for our next game," he said.

Grinding out a result

Superlatives have began to run out on the incredible start the promoted side has made this season and have dazzled with the style of football but Sunday saw a team that rolled up their sleeves and grinded out a result they had no business getting based on the run of play.

"It wasn't one of our fluent games where we played the beautiful football, it was one of those games where we had to dig deep," Simms said. "We told the players to stick to the evil that brought us here. Whenever we lose the ball we have to get close to the man next to us. The man who is closest to the ball should pressure the ball and allow the rest of the team to regroup."With every victory, he recognises that the target on their back is becoming bigger.

"After every game, we tell them that the game that we just played is history. We have to move on, continue to move forward. These youngsters we believe in them, they believe in us. We keep working and once we keep working and they listen and follow instructions, the sky is the limit," he said.

The fans who were in attendance on Sunday evening saw evidence of the hard work being shown and the same was reciprocated by the players after the match when on the instruction of Simms, went over to applaud the supporters for coming out.

"We are a new team in this league and we are trying to build our fan base. So that's why I asked the players to go and clap the fans for coming out and they did that. We are just trying to build our fan base and build Molynes United as we go forward," Simms said.

Molynes United will be away to Harbour View next Sunday.
