STETHS hunt Ben Francis Cup to end title drought

The first round of the ISSA Ben Francis Knockout Cup gets under way this afternoon with St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) going up against The Manning's School at Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland.

STETHS are down to their last chance of salvaging a silverware from the season to avoid going four straight seasons without a trophy. Their ongoing drought follows seven straight title-winning years, including three DaCosta Cup and six consecutive Ben Francis Cup titles.

Failed attempt

The boys from Santa Cruz will have to remotivate themselves after a disappointing failed attempt to get into the daCosta Cup semi-finals.

Donovan Stone, the assistant coach of STETHS who admitted they are disappointed in their daCosta Cup quarter-final round, said they are ready to give this Ben Francis their all to win the trophy.

"We are very serious as it is our only shot at winning something this season. It has been a very disappointing season for us, with all the hard work we have put in to be only vying for one title. However, we are going to give our all as this is our only hope. We have three rounds and we just have to take it step by step," Stone who explained that remotivating the team is no challenge given what's at stake.

"We have gone three seasons without winning anything so the boys know what is at stake and is keen and ready to give of their all. We have some who are in their last season and would want to leave the school with something. Also, we have some youngsters who want to go through the process of winning or start learning to win from this year to bring into next year," he said.
