‘Concerning!’ - Walker-Brown, Edwards worried about JFF delay to appoint new Reggae Girlz coach

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Women's Committee Chairperson Elaine Walker-Brown and former national senior women's team head coach Charles Edwards are concerned about the situation regarding Vin Blaine's replacement.

Blaine resigned as head coach of the Reggae Girlz on May 17 and the JFF has still not found a replacement with less than 30 days to go to the Concacaf Women's Championship, a tournament which serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Women's World Cup and Olympic Games.

Jamaica are drawn in Group A with World champions United States, host Mexico, and Haiti, with the tournament on in Monterrey from July 4 to 18.

Blaine's job came under scrutiny after 20 members of the Reggae Girlz squad signed a letter to JFF's president Michael Ricketts demanding that he be replaced because of concerns regarding coaching, communication, and organisation.

Englishman Jonathan Morgan was tipped to replace Blaine, but he has since taken over as the head coach of Burnley's women's team in England. Lorne Donaldson is the other coach being considered.

"I am very much concerned because even after the technical committee has met and Jonathan Morgan was the top coach and now he has gotten the Burnley job, I was hoping that the second person in that interview would just automatically fall in place," Walker-Brown told STAR Sports.

"However, I don't know what is in the president's mind and I really don't know what is happening, but it is a cause for concern. You see the group that we are in, there is no preparations other than the Girlz's individual workouts, so it is really a cause for concern."

Walker-Brown said that the JFF must act swiftly because she believes Jamaica is in a tough group.

Edwards also said the JFF should move quickly to make an appointment so that the new coach can put plans and systems in place for the qualifiers.

"I am very concerned about it because I don't think it augurs well for the team and the programme, but then again, we have to think about all the hiccups that they have been going through and personally, I think they could have moved a bit faster," Edwards said.

"I don't think it will be good for any game coming up right now, especially Mexico in Mexico, which is a very tough game to start off and on that note, it is not looking good right now."

Edwards said that one of the positives about this is that many players are in clubs overseas, which means they will still be in fair condition for the tournament.
