Davison steals show at Junior Championships

St Catherine High School's Sandrey Davison crowned himself National Junior sprint champion by clocking a personal best (PB) time to win the 200m at the National Stadium last evening.

Davison, 19, who won the 100m title last Friday, won the 200m event in 20.84 seconds, erasing his previous mark of 20.90.

"I am very happy with my performance," he said. "I came into this championship with the mindset to win the sprint double and I got it, so I just want to thank my coaches, my family, and friends for the support."

Calabar High School's David Lynch was second in 21.32, while third went to Jamaica College's Malique Smith-Band in 21.46.

Hydel's Alana Reid was also delighted after she won the girls Under-20 200m title in 23.19, ahead of Edwin Allen's Tia Clayton 23.41 and Immaculate's Mickaila Haisley 23.94.

"I am very happy for the win because I have worked very hard for this all season," Reid said. "It was a very tough race because I had to work very hard for it and I just want to thank my mother and coaches who have been there for me all season."

Calabar's Dishuan Lamb clocked 13.42 to turn back the challenge of St Jago's Jahvel Granville to win the boys Under-20 110m hurdles event. Granville was second in 13.48 while third went to his teammate Demario Prince in 13.60.

Kerrica Hill from Hydel won the girls Under-20 100m hurdles in a PB of 12.98, ahead of Peterfield's Alexis James (13.13), and Asharria Ulett from St Catherine High School (13.65).

KC's Shaemar Uter outran the field to capture the boys Under-20 400m in 46.06, ahead of Delano Kennedy of Edwin Allen (47.24), and Manchester High School's Shemar Palmer (47.49). Holmwood's Rickiann Russell won the girls Under-20 400m in 54.36, in front of Hydel's Alliah Baker (54.67), and Oneika Brissett of William Knibb (54.68).

St Elizabeth Technical's Barrain Smith got the better of his teammate Adrian Nethersole to win the boys Under-20 800m in 1:53.31 minutes. Nethersole was second in 1:54.37, while third went to Trevone Prince of Jamaica College in 1:56.74.

Rushana Dwyer of Edwin Allen won the girls equivalent in 2:10.53, ahead of Samantha Kavanagh of Trinity Elite (2:11.87), and Kishay Rowe of Alphansus Davis High School (2:13.13).
