Digital board installed at Caymanas

Caymanas Park's new tote board was officially put into commission yesterday.

The board, which displays race-day information, including payouts, results, and odds for horses in each race, is now fully digital, unlike the older model, decommissioned in February 2021, which has been in operation for over 30 years.

Supreme Ventures Chief Executive Officer Gary Peart says installing the new board has always been high priority for the company.

"We saw it as a critical step to elevating the racing experience for our punters and offering them an overall product that is comparable to the best racing venues across the world," he said. "The old tote board provided on-track punters with race-day information such as odds, dividends, and results, but after being in place for over 30 years, the time had come for a change."

The screen is 60 by 40 feet wide, with a 12-foot base and two framed side panels for advertising. Peart says the project cost over $100 million, but much of that will be recouped through using the board for advertising.

Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association President Howard Hamilton is pleased with its installation and other work being done at the park, but said there is more to do to improve the racing product.

"It has been something that has been long awaited by the stakeholders and all stakeholders should be extremely happy that this day has finally come," he said. "We will have some quality viewing of racing now and some quality display of the odds so that you can calculate your bets more efficiently, so all congratulations to Supreme Ventures for making this step forward.

"I have always been very critical of them (Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment) and am I still going to be very critical because I want to see some state of the art [infrastructure] now that we can start getting tourists back into attending racing."
