Camperdown High's hopes of securing a second-round berth in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup suffered a big blow yesterday after they played to a 0-0 draw with Hydel High in their Group E match at the Royal Lakes field.

The result left Camperdown on eight points, six behind Hydel and 16 off leaders Mona High. Wolmer's sit second with 15 points.

Needing to win to keep their chances alive, Camperdown were second best for the majority of the contest and were fortunate not to concede.

"We are very disappointed with the result. I think the performance could have been much better, with what was at stake," assistant coach Damion Stewart said.

"To have a chance (for second round) we needed to win but I don't think we came out with that mindset."

With two games remaining it will take a miracle to see Camperdown through to the next phase as one of the best third-place teams but Stewart said they will keep going until the end.

"I don't want to point fingers but this has been a bad season for Camperdown. It looks like we will have to reshuffle and come again because it appears we can't go through.

"We have two games and six points to play for. We can only get 15 points and they (Hydel) are already on 14. So mathematically our chances are not over as yet. So we will go for it and hope for the best," he told STAR Sports.

Hydel created better and had more chances in the first half and only failed to take the lead because of poor finishing.

Their best chance of the half fell to Ruben Brown but he blasted over from three yards with the goal at his mercy.

Camperdown had their chances too and they missed a simple header from a corner late in the half.

Hydel continued to have the better of play at the start of the second half but were still wasteful in front of goal.

Hydel's coach Devon Anderson said it was a similar game to the teams' first meeting when they failed to make use of their chances and had to settle for the point.

"Goals win matches and we didn't put away our chances and today we got numerous," he said.
