Waterhouse rally to beat Molynes

October 24, 2022

Waterhouse, after a lacklustre first half, turned in an improved second-half performance to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Molynes United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on the opening day of the Jamaica Premier League yesterday.

Molynes dominated their more fancied opponent in the first half and Shanardo Green fired them into the lead on the half-hour. Waterhouse, however, stormed back after the break with goals from Denardo Thomas in the 64th minute and Shaquille Bradford in the 79th to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon noted that they are in transition and it will take some time for them to grow. Gordon, however, thought they showed true Waterhouse mettle to earn the victory.

"Molynes did a lot to close us down in the first half. We made a lot of errors and Molynes looked good on the ball. Second half we used the ball a lot more. We came back and got two good deliveries and two goals.

"This is the first game and we are a team in transition. We have some senior players out but we are working on it and it will take some time, but this is 'Firehouse'. We have a lot of players who fight for the badge, so just give them time," Gordon said.

Molynes dominated the first period and had a few opportunities that went wayward. They, however, found the opener when Green arrived late in the box to slot home a loose ball.

Waterhouse were more purposeful after the break and found the equaliser when Thomas redirected a cross to the back post.

Molynes thought they retook the lead moments later but Marques McDonald was in an offside position to touch home Rashawn Livingston's goal-bound shot.

The Alex Thomas-coached Molynes continued to create good openings but eventually found themselves behind when Bradford turned home another cross 11 minutes from time.

Thomas said they wasted the chances to put the game out of their opponent's reach from the first half.

"We created a lot of chances. We just needed to put away our chances. If we put away our chances Waterhouse would be out of the game, but this is the first game of the season, we can't be too hard on them," he commented.
