After getting his first taste of victory in the Nitro Rallycross Championship series in Los Angeles at the weekend, Jamaican driving sensation, Fraser McConnell, is aiming to keep his momentum going and will be trying to repeat his success when he turns out for the fifth leg of the series in Phoenix, Arizona, this month.

After topping the qualifying round, McConnell skilfully manoeuvred the course to edge out his rivals for the championship, and when he gets behind the wheel again at the Wild Horse Pass track on November 12 and 13, the objective will be to repeat his success of Los Angeles.

"We want to keep that momentum going and try to collect some more of these (trophies). Hopefully, we can repeat it again," he said on Monday at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Adorned with the qualifying champion belt for topping the qualifying round, along with the Nitro Rallycross trophy, the 24-year-old insists his ambition is to keep on top of his game physically and mentally and bring home the overall title.

He currently trails Robin Larsson and Andreas Bakkerud in the standings at the halfway stage of the ten-leg series. However, he pointed out that there is still a lot of time to make up the ground on his rivals.

"There are a lot of events to be had. He (Larsson) is not that far ahead at all. So I want to go out and bring the championship back to Jamaica.

"I have the top qualifier belt and I will hold that until the next race. I also have the big trophy that is going to stay home.

"We will stick to the game plan and make sure we are physically and mentally prepared to go out and execute as best as we can," he stated.

He pointed that Sunday's victory was decided on small margins and he had to put in an immaculate performance to stave off the competition.

"It was a real small track. Everyone was really close on the times. The top six in the finals were within three seconds. You could barely fit a paper between the cars, so it was really important not to make any mistakes and to put in some good laps. So from the start on Saturday to the end on Sunday there were no mistakes," he said.

"We had our push pass and I used it up quite a bit to get in front on the first lap. I knew they would be gunning for that pole spot, so I was trying to keep it shut and as tight as I could. They went and used the joker strategy early and I went in hot on their heels and put in some good laps and thankfully we came out just in front," he recounted.
