Royals, Kings keep pace in Jamaica T10
Surrey Royals and Surrey Kings remain the early front-runners for the Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica Ten10 (T10) title after carving out wins yesterday in round eight of the competition, which has shifted to Kensington Park from Sabina Park.
After losing to Kings on Friday, Royals bounced back with a 19-run win over Cornwall Warriors in the opening game of the doubleheader, which also saw Surrey Kings easing to a 35-run win over Middlesex Titans.
In the opening encounter, Royals first put up 95 for three in their 10 overs, with national batsman Carlos Brown leading the way with 38 from 27 balls with one four and two sixes.
Captain Javelle Glenn also weighed in with 22 runs from 18 balls against two wickets for Osbourne Palmer.
Warriors, in reply, could only manage to get 76 for seven, despite 30 from opener Devario Smith. Leg-spinner Abhijai Mansingh bagged three wickets for nine runs, with Nicholson Gordon getting two wickets for 22 runs.
In the second game, Surrey Kings posted 96 for seven, with Antwin Stevens top scoring with 23, as Tevin Gilzene and Brad Barnes each scored 22.
Pacer Jermaine Chisholm took two wickets for Titans, who could only manage 61 for six in their 10 overs.
Captain Renaldo Ingram tried valiantly to get to the target following his 32 from 25 balls, but West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell, with two wickets for just two runs in two overs, ensured Kings kept their unbeaten run intact and their fifth win of the competition.
Royals are on 15 points and lead Kings, also on 15 points, by net run rate.
The competition continues today at Kensington Park with Surrey Kings back in action against Middlesex United Stars while Surrey Risers face off with Middlesex Titans.
